don't screw your do.

here are some tips on getting the best from your next haircut. These tips come from a handful of respected barbers, so we're pretty confident in recommending them to you.

learn the Language.

If you want your hair to look a certain way, it's important that you're able to describe it eloquently and efficiently. Asking for "just a trim" can mean something completely different than what you have in mind to a barber you've never worked with before. This will make sure you're on the same page and save you some ebarassment. undercut, hard part, fade, rounded, textured, etc...

bring a Picture.

It's a lot easier to imagine what you want by looking at an example rather than translating your words into a mental picture. It's much easier to start with a picture and explain how you want it applied to your dome.

stay off your phone.

don't be a dickhead. getting your haircut is a social and participatory experience. make eye contact and have a conversation. This makes the eperience more enjoyable. What you don't want is an angry barber.

avoid peak times and don't rush.

make sure your barber is able to take the time required to perfect your cut. don't come in on a busy saturday while the walk-in line is out the door, tell the barber to hurry up, and expect to walk out of there with the best cut you've ever had. It's an art and art takes time.

watch and learn.

observe the changes and techniques and feel free to ask questions. That way you'' be able to explain what worked or didn't work thennext time you come in. This will also help you to understand the lingo and better explain what you want in the future.

trust your barber.

Ideally, you're building a relationship here. You want to find a soulmate barber who just gets it. Consistency means you can confidently get what you want everytime. When your barber gets to know you and your mop, they'll be able to make better recommendations, and you'll be comfortable enough to accept those recommendations.

tip well.

i shouldn't have to say this, but i will anway. This is a sign of respect and gratitude. a job well done deserves a tip well given. it also helps ensure you'll get a good cut next time as well.

ultraboost hits the pitch.

adidas has now announced three different colorways in their line of ultraboost soccer cleats. "triple white", "triple black", and "silver pack" (triple grey may have been a more consistent name?).

I haven't had the opportunity to try them out myself, but these boots are ridiculously good looking.

a primeknit upper and three structured stripes are designed to lock the foot down while giving a soft touch on the ball and added control for strikers. And don't forget the hybrid boost technology in the sole which promises to a comfortable experience.

The silver pack is scheduled to release February 5th, but dates for other color options has not yet been announced. Finally, something to look forward to.

cold feet.

Admittedly, I no longer live in a place where freezing feet is an issue, but I certainly have not forgotten the terrible feeling of frozen feets. So for those of you who still have to deal with this problem every time it gets cold, or if you're visiting a colder-than-usual place and want to keep your toes toasty, I've got the solution.

Those tiny disposable feet warmers got nothing on these bad boys. Heated shoe insoles that can be controlled by an app. killer.

The kickstarter campaign for these babies has reached its funding goals so production will begin soon. Better sign up quick if you want to get them before they're full priced.

you're welcome.

abc's of men's fashion - 62.

french cuff

French cuffs are twice as long as regular cuffs, and then folded back on themselves and closed with cuff links.

As they are more formal attire, French cuffs should not be worn every day, unless you’re a mob boss or the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Generally speaking, French cuffs should only be worn with suit jackets. If you’ve got that certain je ne sais qois about you and know how to wear them without overpowering your outfit, then you might be able to pull off French cuffs with a blazer or a sport coat, but in most situations, it’s best to keep them formal and stick to the suit jacket.

the shredded tee.

now that shredded/holey jeans have become common in the fashion world, tees are beginning to follow suit. But, like jeans, shirts with holes in them walk a fine line between fresh and fugly. Too many holes and you look like you're trying too hard. Not enough and they don't even get noticed. Holes too big and you're showing half a nip while you walk around town.

Generally, I think it's good to folow the 'less is more' principle, but there's more than that to take into consideration.

I dig the large hole in the back with shirt fabric hanging off. I also like the 'holes congregating in specific areas' approach, as opposed to the 'holes everywhere' option.

As it turns out, it's really hard to find one of these shredded tees that A) don't look terribly overdone, and B) isn't terribly overpriced. Realistically, you're better off taking some scissors to an old shirt that fits well. Just don't turn it into a muscle tee and don't go hole-happy.

Good luck.

reebok is slightly less terrible now.

It's no secret that the only reason Reebok still exists is because they latched onto the crossfit bandwagon before it exploded, and promptly became the sole sponsor of the UFC. They're finally managing to breathe some new life into the brand.

I'm not saying you should go out any buy stock in the brand, nor am i recommending that you gear up with ufc reebok training gear or any of that noise.

But these throwback reebok gum sole shoes are dope, so that's something slightly less terrible than the previous 10 years of reebok.

You can grab them at Champs or, like, any major reebok dealer probly.

alpha industries.

I love how versatile flight jackets are becoming. the bomber/flight jacket trend is still strong which means designers are finding new ways to wear them.

check out these variations from the one and only alpha industries.

You can pick one up directly from alpha industries for around $150. Or you can get lucky and go the ebay route.

chain gang.

fashion is cyclical, this is a well-documented fact. So try not to be surprised when I tell you that chain wallets are a thing again, and you don't have to be a biker to wear them.

Oh you don't believe me? See for yourself:

Not only do you not have to be a biker to rock the chain, but the chain doesn't even have to be a real "chain" anymore -- you can sport a leather version if you're feeling it.

Now you can be both fashionable and economically responsible in a big city. Enjoy your trip down memory lane.

me and your mama

Check the opening track to Childish Gambino's newest album [Awaken, My Love!].

It's called 'Me and Your mama', and it's breaking into a whole new world of soul and vibes.

The album will be available December 2nd, and if this is any indication, it promises to be wirth the money.
