how to create a unique/successful minimalist watch brand.

This. is. gold. I can't take credit for writing this, but it's just so good I had to share it. I think this is happening in a lot of areas besides just minimalist watches, but this is spot on.

simplyskinnyties

If you've been a Cult follower for awhile, you know a couple things about me already:

  1. I dig menswear
  2. I'm all about that bargain, 'bout that bargain, no ripoffs

So when our friends at Simply Skinny Ties offered to send us a couple of their pieces to try out, I was pumped. A relatively new company out of Utah, Simply Skinny aims "To provide each of [their] customers with a line of unique, high quality neckties for a simple price." Music to my ears.

There are currently about nine styles to choose from with more on the way. And at a price point of $25, you really can't go wrong. Unless you don't own $25 dollars, in which case you should maybe focus on getting a job before you start collecting ties. Priorities, man.

Each tie measures 2.5 inches at it's widest point, and the current styles are made of either 100% cotton or 100% wool. Generally, I would recommend a silk tie when pairing with a suit for more formal occasions, but you would exect to pay at least 3-4 times as much for a high-quality silk tie, which is not fun. That being said, These ties are manufactured well and they look good, and when coordinated correctly, can work in both casual and formal settings.

I highly recommend stopping by the Simply Skinny Ties website and picking up a couple ties to add to your collection and really make your style stand out. For $25, it'll be the best tie-based decision you make.

komono watches.

minimal, classic, and affordable. these are the three words that come to mind when looking at komono watches. granted, they're not going to last you a lifetime like a fine timepiece will, but these watches look fine, and they'll last you long enough.

There's nothing overly flashy about the watch face or the functionality--you're not going to find added dials, stopwatch features, or a built-in spy laser. But unique materials, creative watch band fabrics, and minimalistic designs make these watches standout.

You can plan on a watch face of either 41 or 46mm, and a price tag around $100. Great size and a great price (do not by that 55mm nixon watch that looks like a small satellite on your wrist). Take a look at some of their creative takes on a classic look, and scoop one up.

Stop Here to find the right watch for you and up your time game (is time game a thing? it should be a thing).

gustin.

gustin is legitimately changing the game. They're not making things that have never been made before, and they're not creating the most extravagent and unique product. But they are, however, changing the way things are purchased, made, and delivered.

the story.

the company has been around for 8 years, making premium selvedge denim and high-end menswear featured in high-end boutiques across the US for around $205. Focusing on high quality, well-made products for style-centered customers.

what sets them apart is where they went from there. they call it crowdourced fashion. Crowsourcing their products eliminates waste, and allows them to connect on a more personal level with their buyers.

how it works.

1. Gustin decides to produce a particular item of menswear. This item could be a shirt, a pair of jeans, a belt, anything.

2. They design the product and give you a sneak peak on their website, using pictures, and descriptions of the materials and manufacturing.

3. You decide that you want to pick up said product, and so you go online and "back" that item on the gustin website. (Just like a Kickstarter campaign)

4. Once the product reaches the set number of backers required, production begins, payment is made, and an estimated delivery date is set. (Just like a Kickstarter campaign)

5. Now you play the waiting game until you recieve your product. (Yes, just like a Kickstarter campaign)

What's great about this process is that, not only are you receiving an extremely limited edition item, but you're getting it at a fraction of the cost. Instead of spending $200+ on a pair of selvedge denim, you're spending around $80, and having it delivered to your front door.

Sooooo....what are you still doing here? Stop by the Gustin Website and start backing some new digs.
