rodney mullen.

A friend of mine is convinced that skateboard style is going to come back into the fashion spotlight in the very near future. I sincerely hope that doesn't include Volcom cargo shorts and puffy dvs sk8er shoes.

However, given that there are a few solid brands that are taking part of the skate community like Brixton, nike, and adidas, there may be hope.

In honor of this hope, here's a rad new video of rodney mullen.

red maps.

The holidays are coming up right quick. Since we can't pretend that during that time all your thoughts are going to be on music and fashion, we've decided to be accomodating and be there for you in your time of need.

What that means is while we'll still continue to write about fashion and music and whatnot, we'll also be helping you out with gift ideas for people with good taste.

That being said, feast your eyes on the gift of the day: Red Maps.

Not only do Red Maps give you an overhead view of each city, they also give you detailed info on everything you want and need in a city center: Luxury Shopping, Indie Designers, Boutique Hotels, Theatre, Museums, Beautiful, Parks, Incredible Architecture, Popular Neighborhoods, Important Landmarks, and much much more (each according to what the city i known for and uniquely offers).

Their philosophy is simple: "We do not accept advertising. Stores, hotels, restaurants and places of interest are included solely because they are noteworthy and entertaining. Our philosophy makes it easy to be true to what we do, to stay objective and produce a beautiful product."

You gotta admire that. No ads, just honest opinions.

So for the worldly traveler, the cultural enthusiast, the cartographer who frames maps of places they've been, or just that friend in your life who loves finding cool things to see and do in each city, stop by the Red Maps Website and pick up some maps. for $10 you really can't go wrong.

lucasfilms teams up with neff and disney to bring us these stormtrooper helmets with a twist. the helmets are designed by artists from various companies such as disney, marvel, pixar and they also teamed up with various street artists.

they are releasing this art for star wars day, may 4th, also know as may the fourth be with you. here are a few stormtrooper helmets for you guys to check out. considering the number of artists involved in this project i'm assuming there will be more. most likely they will be released in a couple days on may 4th.

21 helmets 2014 - see see motor coffee co.

this year see see teamed up with bell and they gave 21 artists helmets to custom paint and design to their hearts content.

these helmets originally debuted at the one motorcycle show earlier this year. apparently people liked it because it's now going to featured at the 2014 autsin moto gp.

it's rad that some of these artist that are only known in the chopper/custom bike scene will get main stream exposure on the moto gp level.

check out some of the helmets that were created by the artists in the video below.

calm the ham.

calm the ham is a weird name for a company. There's really no way around that. But now that we've gotten that out of the way, we can move past it, and talk about what they're doing that makes up for their lack of skill in naming companies.

Calm the ham is a colleciton of artists, all with incredible minds for simplistic design. Most of the work comes by way of inforgraphic, typography, and unique representations of cultural history. my favorite, however, is the city skylines collection. These prints feature iconic city skylines from some of the most famous cities around the world in simple, elegant silhouette.

this colleciton includes a hge number of cities, so you'll have no time forming a collection of your favorites. And since they start at $29 per print, there's really no reaosn to not buy a few. Stop by their site and shop around the collection by clicking here.

david redon - ads libitum.

i'm always a fan of of clever art. especially when it includes creative ways of combining pop culture with things that aren't normally associated with it.

the latest is david redon’s remake of classic american ads with some of today’s icons. he included the infamous kanye west as well as pharrell williams referencing his latest hit “happy” in the ad. the best part is that david redon is a french artist. so seeing his version of these makes them that much better.

it reminded me of jonny defreest’s pop culture ice creams – big fan of that too.

i haven't seen anything about these being prints for sale anywhere, but i'll update this post if that changes. for now just enjoy the art.

check out more of david redon's work on his tumblr here.

banksy sells original art for $60.

the world famous graffiti artist hits central park to sell some original art at a very reasonable price. some of these pieces are valued well over their $60 price tag with past pieces selling at auctions in the six figure range. this little pop up shop was part of bankys' "better out than in" street exhibition that he's been doing in new york city and actually had an interesting result. check out the video below to see what i mean.
