Help our brother out

A close friend of ours, Nick Huynh, was recently hit by a drunk driver while out riding his bike. He is, by far, one of the greatest people we've ever known, and right now he needs our help.

Nick is selfless, kind, unbelievably humble, and a total badass.

He is currently in critical condition and will require multiple surgeries on top of those he's already had. We're using to raise money to cover as much of the medical expenses as we possibly can.

If you are able, please stop by the site and make a donation, and keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Anything and everything helps. Also, feel free to use the following graphic to spread the word on social media.

invisible bike helmet

In keeping with yesterday's bike theme, i thought i'd share this gem with you.

The Invisible Bicycle Helmet | Fredrik Gertten from Focus Forward Films on Vimeo.

Is it actually an invisible helmet? no

Does the helmet scarf thing look bulky and awkward? yeah, a bit.

Are the crash testing videos laugh-out-loud hilarious? absolutely.

but the creativity and innovation in a market that really hasn't done much since it's inception is still pretty cool.

They're calling it an airbag for cyclists, and you can read more about it here.

The Scandinavian Bikehook.

bikes are one of the greatest machines to ever be created. you really can't argue that, it’s less of an opinion and more of a fact these days.

Bicycles are ridden all over the globe. It’s a reliable source of transportation and let’s be honest, they’re fun. I love bikes. I have a stable of them in my room. Yes, my room. They are so loved they can’t be stored in a dark, dirty garage. Even though my mountain bike is currently covered in dirt and mud which makes no sense for it to be in my room – I digress. Some of my bikes are hanging on my wall and others are propped up against my wall. This is where The Scandinavian Bikehook would come in handy. I have a wall hook that I hate. It’s a pain and its made in China, that really says it all.

The Scandinavian Bikehook is a simple, solid design that makes storing your bike easy. I mean look at it, it’s not a complicated product – and that’s good. The Bikehook comes from a place that’s no stranger to the bicycle, Denmark. I spent some time over in Copenhagen this summer which is basically the bike capital of the world and let me tell you, you need a bike over there. Public transportation is fine, cars are a pain and walking sucks. The bicycle is king in Copenhagen and I lived on my bike while I was there. Quick shoutout to the homie who, uh, lets say ‘lent’ me his or her bike, I thank you and sorry.

The Bikehook’s simple design allows it to be utilized in any space, big or small. Use one hook to hang the bike vertically or take advantage of both hooks to store your bike horizontally. The Bikehook is also made out of solid wood. You’re not getting some cheap plastic piece of shit. You’re investing in something that’s built to last.

We’ve got a few images in the post and the video at the bottom for you guys to check out, but head on over to the kickstarted to get a little more info on Scandinavian Bikehook project here. Don't forget to back the project while you're there.

parker dusseau - the commuter suit.

someone finally found a way to do it. No, I'm not talking about a way to prevent the lid on the honey squeeze bottle from getting ridiculously sticky; I'm talking about figuring out the formular to make commuting to work via bicycle while wearing a suit. Generally, when you attempt to ride a bike in a suit, there are a few things that happen:

  1. You show up a hot mess, with sweat on your forehead, dripping down your back, and showing through the armpits of your suit
  2. Your suit pulls at the seams in your back, forearm, crotch, and basically anywhere your body bends
  3. your pant leg gets caught in your chain
  4. you feel fairly awkward overall

I come bearing good news: Parker Dusseau (San Francisco, CA) has ended your days of suit-wearing, bicycle-riding woe with the commuter suit! Behold:

At first glance you think 'well now, that's a fine looking suit.' but then you see it on a bike, and you're thinking 'hey, h-how's he doin' that?' And that, my friends, is the beauty of the commuter suit.

With reflective inserts, hidden zipper pockets, ventilation sections, cuff buttons, stretch fabric, and all kinds of hidden gems, it'll feel like youre wearing nothing at all...nothing at all.

Parker Dusseau is also very aware of the fact that with a commuter suit comes the need for a commuter shirt. Well don't you fret, they've covered that as well.

The suit is made form Super 135 Merino Wool and Spandex blend fabric with a moisture resistant finish, and starts at $485 for the coat and $245 for the trousers. Jump over here to find out more about them.

danny macaskill's imaginate.

Danny MacAskill is one of the greatest riders of all time and not just trials. The control he has of his bike is unreal. Check out his latest vid and don't be embarassed when you start to drool. And yes, you're going to want to rewatch this video a few times.

freedom and happiness.

Too often we make decisions based on social norms and cultural acceptibility. What really matters is being free to do what makes you happy. It doesn't matter what it is, whether your passion is making balloon animals, doing taxes, or riding a bike.

Doing what you love is freedom... Loving what you do is happiness.

Be Free. Be Happy. Be You.

ride to the beach.

Yesterday I went on a ride with my buddy Jose. We started out with no general plan and ended up at the beach. We took this bike trail down that goes straight to the beach. In order to get there you ride through this section, that on a day like yesterday, looks like you're entering Jurassic Park. The fog, the mist, the lust green vegetation; all you're missing is Dr. Alan Grant, John Hammond and a few dinosaurs. After we passed through Jurassic Park we ended up at Aliso Creek Beach. We hung out for a second and then took off towards downtown Laguna. We enjoyed some food at Taco Loco, hit Third Street and then headed home. It had been awhile since I've really ridden my bike and I was feeling it. It was a good time and a good ride. It's got me stoked for Summer and ready to ride. See you out there.
