FOG x pacsun.

for those of us who like fear of god streetwear, but don't want to drop $150 on a t-shirt or $800 on jeans, the recently announced collaboration with pacsun might be the answer to our prayers.

Yes, I realize your hesitation in believing that anything good can come out of a pacsun store because generally, they tend to sell garbage. More specifically--wearable cotton-based garbage. And since they haven't released the lookbook for this collaboration line, there's still a really good chance they could screw it up. Until that happens, however, let's try to be a little optimistic. a sneak preview from Jerry Lorenzo himself:

the real question is, will this move ruin fog for those of us who've actually heard about it before this collaboration? pacsun certainly seems to attract a certain kind of customer--usually the kinds of dudes that only talk about raging super hard at fraternity parties, and asking you if you even lift, bro, and the final score of that sportball match that went into quadruple overtime.

my favorite comment from the reddit thread on the topic thus far: "...now that kid that made fun of my elongated tee is wearing it and he just stole that girl that friend zoned me in the 6th grade."

but hey, here's to hoping this isn't a huge mistake. I think this move comes from good intentions on lorenzo's part, so I'm really hoping it works out for the best. From Lorenzo:

"…oh and to the high school kid who left that comment 42 weeks ago… sorry for taking so long to get back to you bro. just been busy man… you know this clothing game isn’t as easy as it may seem… the costs, resources, materials… labor, etc… it adds up. making and constructing luxury level items really isn’t inexpensive… so i apologize that the price tag has been too steep for you… anyhow, i hope your misconception or lack of understanding never clouded your thoughts or perspective on my intention… i’m still learning, building a better team and i figured some things out man… found a way to give you what you asked for, and still have some cash left to take that girl out you were talking about… hope you guys are still goin’ strong… anyhow, this is for you my man. i hope you like it… peace."

Rag & Bone Fall/Winter '15.

Rag & Bone released this extremely cool video to showcase their new line for Fall/Winter '15. The video features Baryshnikov (google him if you need to) and Lil' Buck (If you know who Lil' Buck is but not Baryshnikov, then we need to work on your life priorities).

Also, I feel like Taylor would wear 99% of this stuff if he could get it in black.

Enjoy.

victor athletics.

part of my job as a fashion person (any other titles felt self-indulgent and a bit pompous) is to inform you of opportunities so that you don't miss out on things. This is one of those days where I do that thing I just mentioned... you know, the opportunities thing.

Behold, an amazing opportunity: The Victor Athletics Kickstarter project -- Organic, vintage-inspired athletic wear for men & women, made by small-town American factories and delivered directly to you.

Here's the rundown from their kickstarter page:

"In 1980, America made 80% of its clothes in the US; today, that number is down to 2%. The more time we’ve spent in these small-town factories, the more we’ve grown to see these “percentages” as people with families to feed, and mortgages to pay. By choosing to employ rural American factories again, Victor prioritizes how the clothes are sewn. In fact, we’re going even farther by giving 5% of our after-tax profit back to the factory to continue to invest in their workers and combat the impact of outsourcing."

"While conventional cotton occupies only three percent of the world’s farmland, it uses 25 percent of the world’s chemical pesticides and fertilizers. It is the most pesticide-laden crop in the US. Pesticides that are applied to cotton during the production phase can be detected in cotton clothing in chemical residues that affect the wearer. By choosing to use organic cotton, Victor prioritizes your health and the environment."

"Victor makes it easy to feel good about buying our products. Whether you’re motivated by a great fit, bringing jobs back to the US, or purchasing sustainable clothing--- we’ve got you covered. We’re simplifying online shopping by sending a free try-on box to your door, AND pricing clothes directly from the factory to you. A sweatshirt that would typically be $125 is now $65. We are lowering the barrier of entry for more people to join us in changing the market, employing our neighbor at fair wages, for a fair price."

Backing options for this project start at $25 so get over to their page and give 'em a shot.

my almost favorite flannel.

to be fair, my favorite flannel of all time is also my favorite shirt. So it's unfair to compare other shirts to that one. However, taking that one out of the mix, this is my current favorite flannel shirt.

this lightweight flannel is made by old navy, and is thin enough to wear as a normal shirt during spring as well as fall and winter. I generally pair this with a long-sleeve, white, thermal henley, some selvedge denim, and timberland boots...yes there will be pictures.

It's normall only $35 but right now is on sale for $15, which means you really can't go wrong.

It comes in these other styles as well:

Stop by the Old Navy Website to pick one up. Or I suppose you could also go in to a store and try one on.

rep yo' city.

there are some pretty rad places in this world. and if you happen to live in one of those places, like i do, you get pretty pumped about it. You might even say, you like to "rep yo' city".

Lucky for you, Monochōme has come up with a new way for you to accomplish this by allowing you to map your city onto several different items.

You can pick a neighborhood, a city, a state, a street, county, country, region, continent, hemisphere...whatever you want that's locatable by satellite mapping. Just pick your spot, zoom to your preferred height, and orient it on the item you wish to customize.

Yes, they make items for both men and women. Stop by the official site and grab something for yourself or someone you know who reps their city.

asos personal stylist.

Asos just launched a new program called 'personal stylist'. Essentially, the idea is that you can go to the website and follow any of 9 'stylists' (two of which are males), and find information on their outfits of the day. It's kind of like a cross between instagram, blogging, and asos shopping since each outfit featured has links and prices to each piece of the outfit.

Here's my take on the whole thing:

Pros

  • the dudes have decent style (well, one is solid most of the time and the other is decent)
  • the dudes have decent photographers
  • finding pieces from each outfit is easy and convenient
  • it's a fairly unique idea and easy to use

Cons

  • the styles aren't amazing and for something like this they really should be on point at all times
  • the outfits are limited to items found on asos.com
  • there are only two dudes to pick from
  • the whole site looks really cheesy and kind of like a newer version of Teen Bop magazine

hopefully the site improves as people try to use it and they get more dudes with better style to feature.  but check it out and see what you think. Click here

abc's of men's fashion - 54

colour.

The trick to incorporating colour is in pairing a strong and interesting colour (such as red or electric blue or green) with a more classic, safe colour (such as navy or charcoal grey). contrast is key--too many colors will make you look like tacky rainbow. The art is in nonchalance.
