since air-cooled porsches seem to be the latest car trend, we mine as well talk about them and two guys that probably like them a lot more than you.

we're talking about Patrick Long and Howie Idelson, the two dudes that created Luftgekühlt and are as rennsport as it gets. Long is a porsche team driver too, so yeah, he's definitely a bigger porsche guy than you. And before you jump to the conclusion on the name luftgekühlt, it literally translates to air-cooled in german which works out nicely for the dudes no matter how instagram it sounds.

Now that you know what luftgekühlt means, i should probably tell you what it is. luftgekühlt is an event for the air-cooled porsche fanatics and die hards. where porsche is religion and the only thing that people care about are the cars. the event was created to get away from the stuffy atmosphere of golf courses and polos where you'd usually see these classics and collector status porsches and just have fun while being around rad cars.

the main gist of this post was to tell you what luftgekühlt is so that i can tell you that luftgekühlt4 is officially on the books. mark your calendar, the first weekend of may 2017 at deus in los angeles you can get your fill of air-cooled porsches and then some. i dropped a couple drool worthy porsche pics in here, but you can go to luftgekü for more or just simply go to the google machine. dealer's choice.

*images provided by Luftgekült and Drew Phillips.

Naturally, a RWB porsche was at last year's event. Hate them or love them, they're a staple in porsche culture now and nakai-san is regarded as a legend or a mass-porsche-murderer.

want les essentiels - montoro.

it's not every day you stumble upon a beautiful pair of black derby shoes. well, today was my day and since i have this platform to share, it's your day too.

this clean and handsome pair of derby shoes comes from want les essentiels and goes by the name montoro.

upon first look they appear to be a basic pair of derby style shoes (which is what initially caught my interest).

then you start to look at them and you notice the little details.

you notice the texture in the leather. the subtle color and material difference that doesn't instantly pop out at you. you notice much more thought was put into them when you stop and look.

stare. enjoy. buy

normcore - "A fashion movement, c. 2014, in which scruffy young urbanites swear off the tired street-style clichés of the last decade — skinny jeans, wallet chains, flannel shirts — in favor of a less-ironic (but still pretty ironic) embrace of bland, suburban anti-fashion attire. (See Jeans, mom. Sneakers, white.)"

"Normcore is safe. Normcore is same-y. The normcore look is a knowing piss-take of the heterosexual male’s desperate desire to be sartorially unremarkable. Normcore is not brave or butch or swagger-y. Normcore is about dressing like a mild-mannered mental patient or a bewildered Icelandic exchange student circa 1984."

This is the worst. Don't fall for it. This isn't fashion, it's just lazy.

Just don't.

abc's of men's fashion 60.

Bespoke is an adjective for anything commissioned to a particular specification. It may be altered or tailored to the customs, tastes, or usage of an individual purchaser.

A bespoke suit is custom-made, instead of customized from an existing pattern. An individual pattern is cut based on the client’s specific measurements and sewn by hand using fabric that is also hand-selected by the client and fitted to his body. There was a time when all men’s suits were bespoke and men would visit their tailor to be measured, be advised on fabric, style, dressing left or right. The tailor knew all his clients and used to keep patterns for future visits. The world of bespoke creates an intimate relationship between tailor and client. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for the suit to be ready.

rotate your kicks.

If you can help it, don't wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row. In order to fully dry out your shoes after use, you should be rotating with at least one other pair. This will greatly increase the lifespan of your shoes. It's also an excellent excuse to buy another pair.

This, should be something you do in addition to your normal shoe care routine (i.e. shoe trees, polish, etc).

it almost feels like they're trying to go in a primeknit (a la Nike, adidas) direction. but whatever the reason, they're super fresh.

adidas primeknit makes it to clothing.

for the first time ever, adidas will be transitioning its primeknit technology (its response to Nike's flyknit) into apparel.

Quality over quantity.

This is a topic I feel pretty strongly about. Just because your closet is filled to the brim, does not mean you're doing it right. The way I look at it, clothes should be purchased in one of two categories:

  1. Staples
  2. Trends

Staples are the items you'll wear frequently. You'd like them to last you a long time, and they need to look fresh for as long as they last you. Examples of staples are jeans, shoes, suits, white tees, sweaters, peacoats, watches, or belts, to name a few. What you wear with these pieces or how you wear them may change, but these items will always be around.

These are the pieces you should see as an investment. You should be spending appropriate amounts of monies on these purchases. You wouldn't buy underwear from the dollar store because you don't want to chafe in your nethers. So don't buy a suit from H&M because you don't want to look like a chump. Don't go denim shopping at forever Target. Don't buy gym shoes at sketchers.

Spend the money for quality, and it'll payoff in the long run.

Trends on the other hand, will most likely only be used for a finite window of time -- usually a few months or so until the trend has passed or morphed into something else. These are the high-fashion influenced items like infinity scarves, elongated shirts, bracelets, drapey jackets, ripped denim. These things won't be around forever, so they do not require as much of an investment.

I'm not saying you should buy these things; I'm saying you shouldn't be buying the most expensive versions of them. Accept them for what they are: fads, trends, short-lived ideas, and then spend accordingly. These are the items you should be buying at H&M, Zara, TopShop, PacSun. They will most likely be short lived, so spend the amount of money for something you don't mind losing it's value within the year.

The key is to mix quality basics, with trendy cheap finds.

Spend your money where it counts.
