me and your mama

Check the opening track to Childish Gambino's newest album [Awaken, My Love!].

It's called 'Me and Your mama', and it's breaking into a whole new world of soul and vibes.

The album will be available December 2nd, and if this is any indication, it promises to be wirth the money.

oddisee.

A Sudanese-American Rapper from Washington state who doesn't feel the need to rap about drugs, violence, and thug living. Oddisee has a knack for mixing jazzy house beats with east-coast style rap put to meaningful lyrics. Dude's worth taking a listen.

Check out this video of himself explaining...himself. And then a song called

mø.

Most likely an abbreviation of Karen Marie Ørsetd's middle and last names, MØ is my monday mix-tape (this isn't actually a mix-tape, but it sounded better than "album" on account of Monday starting with an 'M'. Alliteration is cool).

Now, I have no idea how you pronounce that (mo? muh? mero?), but it starts with an 'm' and an 'o'-ish letter and so does monday, so this seemed like a fitting soundtrack for my monday. take a listen.

garb critique #1.

occasionally, other websites get sponsored (receive ca$h monies) to put together a look using pieces from companies looking to advertise. What that means is that sometimes those websites suggest a look that may or may not be complete/finished/ideal/realistic/practical/appealing/fashbionable/good at all.

One thing we can promise you is that we will NEVER suggest something to you so that we don't completely stand by just so that we can collect a check. Never.

That being said, allow me to critique some looks thrown together by websites who do not make that same promise, in the first installation of a series I call 'garb critiques'.

love love love this jacket, and both chambray shirts (all three come from American highway). However, the backpack is ridiculous for this kind of outfit and looks like something Kanye would suggest. I also think  the color of the chinos is too bright and playful and far from brown to be taken seriously. I'd ditch the blue tee and replace it with a white one as well. Those bowers and wilkins headphones are prime and put out amazing sound, and the mophie juicepack is a good idea but only if you're going on a trip or something out of civilization which this outfit is not suited for. lastly, the lanyard/keychain thing is gross. super gross.

book on tapeworm.

do you like incredible vocals?

do you also like harmonies featuring incredible vocals from multiple people?

do you also like well-written compositions with unique instrumentation and beautiful lyrcis?

if you answered 'yes', 'yeah', 'yup', 'yep', 'yah', 'yaaaaaaaas', or 'si', to any of the above questions, then I've got a present for you. If you answered 'no' to any of the above, then you're simply the worst.

check out some songs from the provo, utah-based band, Book on tapeworm below.

npr tiny desktop concert playlist.

There's a reason that going to live performances is so much better than listening to a studio-recorded album. There's something about seeing raw emotion and intensity during an in-person show that you lose when you simply listen to an mp3 or cd or record or whatever. That's one of the reasons I love the npr tiny desktop concert series. check out a few of my current favorites. Disclaimer: most of these are acoustic versions of the originals.

jock jamz 2.0

I've recently started working out in the mornings instead of the evenings because I'm a grown a$$ man and i've got really exciting and important things to do in the evenings. Things  like buying eggs and milk, and doing laundry, and binge watching episodes of Seinfeld, and getting into gang fights and whatnot.

Now when I say mornings, I mean I'm walking into the gym around 5:00 in the freaking AM. That means I'm up at 4:30 making breakfast.

The only problem I've had with this decision is that I effing hate mornings so hard. If mornings were a person I'd punch it right in the jeans repeatedly. Mornings are simply the worst.

The only solution: solid gym jamz. So here's today's jock jam, and one classic blast from the past that were on my playlist.
