xtrmst.

guess what happened? Do you remember that one guy Davey Havok. What about his friend Jade Puget? They used to be in this East Bay Hardcore band called AFI. Ring any bells? You may remember them as the band that bailed on its hardcore roots over time becoming less punk rock and more dance pop.

Well they're giving it another go. This isn't the first time they've worked on a side project. Before this project, they released two albums under the name Blaqk Audio, making awkward electro-pop music. But this time things are different – this time they're embracing their raw, unadulterated hardcore origins.

Let's recap. They started here:

Then this nonsense happened:

Now, finally, we're back to this:

You're probably worried about this being a terribly terrible mistake, but let these tracks change your mind, and transport you back to better days. Welcome to what AFI should have become. Allow me to introduce you to Davey Havok's new straight edge hardcore band: xtrmst.

hallelujah. Redemption has finally come for Mr. Havok.

letlive. banshee (ghost fame).

A few weeks ago the band Letlive. released the visuals for their first single "banshee (ghost fame)" off their upcoming album The Blackest Beautiful, which is to be released July 9th. I'm loving this video. Last weekend I was blessed to see them perform at the SLC Vans Warped Tour and to say that I was blown away would be a colossal understatement. Every time I see Letlive. play they change my life all over again. This superpower of a band is expeditiously becoming my favorite group as time goes on. And I’m certain this feeling will amplify with the purchasing of the new album next week. Check out this vid, as well as their others, and I bare my testimony to you that you will not be disappointed. Don’t' forget to scribble in those calendars and pick up The Blackest Beautiful on July 9th.

secrets- ready for repair.

Our good friends in Secrets just released their first song and video from their sophomore album Fragile Figures which will debut July 23rd. I couldn’t be more impressed with how the track came out and the visuals are a perfect expression of the said song. Last week I had the opportunity to preview the whole album and I’ll say the world is not ready for the epidemic to be unleashed this July. Holy moly. Congrats dudes. Drip drip.

afi - the leaving song pt. ll

I know this is the CD everyone says AFI sold out and started to go downhill, but honestly this song and a few others on Sing The Sorrow are some of my favorites. I know I know, I'm a poser and I don't know what I'm talking about. Shut up and enjoy the music. Black Sails will always rule, but I still like this song and love this CD. I don't care what people say, I'm always down with AFI and Davey Havok. Actually don't be surprised if you see a post about Davey Havok soon.

Who Sold Out Now?

Ignite is and will always be one of my favorite hardcore bands. They don't care who tough they look or how cool people think they are. They have strong beliefs and they stand by them. Plus they make amazing music, what more can you ask for? Check out this classic:

Seriously Though, What Happened?

H2O knows what's up. Whether you like this genre of music or not, or even this song for that matter, you can't argue with the message. Music used to be about passion: an art form. It was about the message and the feeling. Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones' success came because the message "I can't get no satisfaction" connected with the public. People followed John Lennon's movement of peace and supported the anti-war stance he took with his music. Listeners can feel soul, emotion, and passion when musicians put their whole hearts into their craft. They put into words the feelings of happiness, love, and hardships that we've all faced, and that allows us to connect on a whole other level. But with each passing day it seems harder and harder to find true musicians who share this passion. What have we become?

Take a look around you. What do you see? I'll tell you. We have musicians that have become famous based on their hair alone. We have people with no musical talent whatsoever pretending to be musicians and getting paid millions for it. We have people creating music for the sole purpose of creating a specific image. Does music make you tough? Does music make you cool? Does music do anything to change your personality or the person you truly are? No, No, NO!! Music does not define you. It can only relfect outwardly what you carry inside you.

Don't believe me? Just look at the science:

-  Fact: Most rappers are not actually gangsters.

-  Fact: Justin Bieber has no idea what love really is.

-  Fact: Ke$ha has no idea what intonation is.

-  Fact: A good majority of musicians today lipsync

+  Fact: Love is all you need.

+  Fact: It doesn't matter if you're black or white.

+  Fact: The times, they are a-changing.

+  Fact: We should not stop believin'.

It hurts doesn't it? It's up to us to change things. Let's get back to the way things were. "Passion before fashion."

Lyrics for your enjoyment:

H2O - What Happened

When it began, for those who don't know, it didn't matter how you looked or what you wore to a show.
Dress codes, F_CK NO! we didn't care about the brand of your jeans and all that sh_t in your hair.

And I know, that people change, and we go through different stages in life.
And I'm not here to criticize, but the reason I scream, is a feeling inside.

Lost (1,2,3,4) lifetime ago it seems, you gave up on your wildest dreams, but i refuse to let mine go.
I took an oath, you can find me here, with an open heart and ears, refusing to surrender.
I can't believe they don't remember, what it feels like to be young

But now the biggest part is all about the image and not the art
Fashion before passion!
And at nights, it makes me mad that I should have to ask:
What happened to the passion? (passion!)
What happened to the reason for screaming?
What happened the music and the message that I love?
What happened to the hard work? (hard work!)
And why does everybody look the same?
What happened the music and the message that I love?
