Yosemite prep # 1 - back-to-berkeley.

I'm gearing up for a week long backpacking trip into yosemite valley this spring, so naturally, I've been looking around for the right gear. I love gear. It's my absolute favorite thing to shop for. It feels so dang manly.

The trouble comes when you're trying to get the right gear without looking like some chump from the discovery channel doing a documentary on fly fishing. For some reason, most outdoor companies insist on making outdoor-ready, adventure-seeking individuals look like complete dorks.

Enter the back-to-berkeley hiking boot from The North Face:

  • HydroSeal® waterproof membrane
  • Waterproof, BLC-compliant, full-grain leather upper
  • OrthoLite® ReBound footbed
  • Compression-molded EVA midsole
  • Compression-molded TPU heel clip
  • Durable TNF Winter Grip® rubber outsole with IcePick® temperature-sensitive lugs

all that plus they look fresh. iconic vintage stype meets modern technology. gear problem #1 solved. stay posted for my solutions to the rest of the dorky gear I'll be picking up.

dripcult x hillandsyd

the extremely talented and fashionable babes from came to visit me in San Francisco. Naturally, I had to show them san francisco from a new perspective. Did we eat delicious foods? of course we did. did we see some touristy stuff? of course we did. did i have to say "I wouldn't touch that if i were you" frequently? of course i did. but did we go on adventures to find hidden gems? you better believe it.

palladium waterproof boots.

As if I didn't like palladium boots enough already, they just released a waterproof line to make them a legitimate hiking boot.

What you probably didn't know about Palladium boots is that they have an amazing history behind them. Palladium was founded in 1920 to make tires for the fledgling aviation industry using canvas layers under vulcanized rubber for added durability.

After World War II, with aircraft manufacturing screeching to a halt, the demand for tires decreased dramatically and so Palladium opened a plant in Pont De Cheruy, France, to start producing footwear that was as hard wearing as their tires.

In 1947 the legendary Pampa boot was born, and the functionality, comfort and durability were so outstanding that the French Foreign Legion adopted it for their use in the harsh desert conditions of North Africa, and throughout the rugged terrain of the Atlas Mountains.

Blah blah blah history history history. Bottom line...Palladium doesn't mess around. And now with added waterproofing, these boots have become my official hiking boot. Check it

Visit the Palladium Website to grab a pair; I already did.

nike sneakerboots.

I know that we're not quite ready to plan for spring yet, but lately it's all i can think about. I'm not sure why but i've got the itch to go hiking and camping so badly, and i lack the equipment to rough it in the winter. So instead, of throwing together a last ditch effort to get some sub-zero adventures going, I'm mentally preparing for the spring.

step 1 - footwear - nike sneakerboots.

nike is, has always been, and will always be my favorite manufacturer of athletic apparel; especially shoes. So it only made sense to begin (and most likely end) my search here. I started out checking eBay for vintage nike hikers, but found the selection and styles to be lacking. Although I did find some pretty cool retro hikers, none of them were in my size, and you can never be too sure how they'll actually hold up.

So, after realizing this was probably a dead end, I figured i'd embrace modern technology and look at some of the new sneakerboots nike has recently released.

nike - free run 2 sneakerboot

nike - rosche run sneakerboot

nike - air max 90 premium sneakerboot

nike - air max 90 sneakerboot

and my personal favorite...

nike - lunar ldv premium

nike - lunar ldv premium - ale brown/black/beach/volt

There's still plenty of time to look at other options, but i'd say this was a pretty good start. Also, if you'd like to see any of these sneakerboots in alternate colors, you can visit the Nike's official website. Let me know if you find some other good options for a sturdy light hiker.
