BellaMantra.

we, at dripcult, enjoy looking dapper as fuh. It's just a fact. And you've heard us say it over and over, that the key to taking your look to the next level is the fine details. That is, once you've covered the basics of course. Get a suit that fits. Get it tailored. Get a tailored white shirt to go with it. Find the right tie for your suit color. Then, add a tie bar and boom, you've significantly improved your look.

Currently our favorite tie bars come from the etsy wizard BellaMantra

Take a gander at what she has to offer:

Stop by BellaMantras online shop and grab a tie bar from one of a billion options. I mean, at around $22, you can get some christmas shopping done at the same time.

garb critique #1.

occasionally, other websites get sponsored (receive ca$h monies) to put together a look using pieces from companies looking to advertise. What that means is that sometimes those websites suggest a look that may or may not be complete/finished/ideal/realistic/practical/appealing/fashbionable/good at all.

One thing we can promise you is that we will NEVER suggest something to you so that we don't completely stand by just so that we can collect a check. Never.

That being said, allow me to critique some looks thrown together by websites who do not make that same promise, in the first installation of a series I call 'garb critiques'.

love love love this jacket, and both chambray shirts (all three come from American highway). However, the backpack is ridiculous for this kind of outfit and looks like something Kanye would suggest. I also think  the color of the chinos is too bright and playful and far from brown to be taken seriously. I'd ditch the blue tee and replace it with a white one as well. Those bowers and wilkins headphones are prime and put out amazing sound, and the mophie juicepack is a good idea but only if you're going on a trip or something out of civilization which this outfit is not suited for. lastly, the lanyard/keychain thing is gross. super gross.

simplyskinnyties

If you've been a Cult follower for awhile, you know a couple things about me already:

  1. I dig menswear
  2. I'm all about that bargain, 'bout that bargain, no ripoffs

So when our friends at Simply Skinny Ties offered to send us a couple of their pieces to try out, I was pumped. A relatively new company out of Utah, Simply Skinny aims "To provide each of [their] customers with a line of unique, high quality neckties for a simple price." Music to my ears.

There are currently about nine styles to choose from with more on the way. And at a price point of $25, you really can't go wrong. Unless you don't own $25 dollars, in which case you should maybe focus on getting a job before you start collecting ties. Priorities, man.

Each tie measures 2.5 inches at it's widest point, and the current styles are made of either 100% cotton or 100% wool. Generally, I would recommend a silk tie when pairing with a suit for more formal occasions, but you would exect to pay at least 3-4 times as much for a high-quality silk tie, which is not fun. That being said, These ties are manufactured well and they look good, and when coordinated correctly, can work in both casual and formal settings.

I highly recommend stopping by the Simply Skinny Ties website and picking up a couple ties to add to your collection and really make your style stand out. For $25, it'll be the best tie-based decision you make.

ABC's of Men's Fashion 21.

Bow Tie.

Although the knotted tie has been worn by day by men so universally as to make the bow tie a slight eccentric exception, it has never been completely abandoned. It has of course remained as a permanent part of evening wear in either black or pique. By day, often in a patterned or spotted foulard, it is usually worn by individualists. On less genial characters, it can have an agressive air and can arouse some kind of resentment at first meeting of a new acquaintance. It may well be, however, that the long lean look in suits demonstrated in its most advanced form by a jacket fastening high with four or five buttons instead of two or three, will require just that kick that a bow tie can give.
