Thank Pharrell, not Kanye.

Adidas AG executives are decidedly happy these days, thanks to Pharrell Williams.

While they were throwing euros at Kanye West and letting him run amok in the design department, the sober heads in Herzogenaurach, Germany, pulled out a 45-year old basketball shoe called the Superstar and put it in Pharrell’s hands. Adidas declared 2015 "the year of the Superstar" and in March released 50 color-saturated versions that the soft-spoken pop star touted in rainbow-laced ads.

The result? Adidas just announced that it sold 15 million pairs of Superstars last year, far more than any of its other shoes. In other words, these nondescript kicks from the 1970s have become a billion-dollar business. At $100 or so per pair, they accounted for almost $1 in every $10 Adidas took in last year.

Kanye West may well be king of the special-release sneaker. He is, no doubt, helping Adidas regain some street cred against Nike Inc. But most of the profit in small-batch footwear goes to sneakerheads fortunate to get their hands on a pair and then flip them on secondary markets. Make no mistake: West is playing small ball. All seven of his "Yeezys" to date have sold out "instantly." Meanwhile, he doesn’t come cheap. Tally up the profit and loss, and the Yeezy becomes a marketing exercise more than an immediate moneymaker.

All told, revenue from the Adidas “Originals” line, which includes such vintage stalwarts as Superstar and Stan Smith, surged by 46 percent in the most recent quarter. No other part of the business came close to matching that growth. The company’s soccer gear, tightly hitched to Argentine phenom Lionel Messi, managed a 26 percent gain for the year while its running revenue increased by 6 percent.

Sometimes, being cool is effortless.

kanye being kanye.

From Fashionista.com:

"For a typical fashion designer, New York Fashion Week prep begins months in advance, and one of the first priorities is securing a spot on the official Fashion Calendar. Now a digital platform operated by the CFDA, which works to prevent scheduling conflicts between two shows that might draw the same editors and buyers, the Fashion Calendar lists events up to six months ahead of time. Enter Kanye West, who decided to stage an over-the-top spectacle for his latest Yeezy collection and the debut of his album "Waves" (and not tell anyone about it until a week or two prior) at 4 p.m. on the first day of New York Fashion Week. This was not great news for two labels slotted to show at the same time.

Former J.Crew designer and current Banana Republic creative advisor Marissa Webb, whose show for her eponymous line was also scheduled for 4 p.m. on the 11th; and Adam Selman, a favorite of Rihanna'swhose show was scheduled for 5 p.m., both rescheduled their shows at the end of last week, after news broke of the Yeezy season 3 event.

While the element of surprise might add to the buzz and excitement surrounding West's show, it puts other designers in a tough spot. Even an established, respected brand can't expect to compete. Selman, whose shows draw a similar crowd to West's, confirmed his switch to the 6:30 p.m. slot last Thursday morning, though a rep would not confirm the reason for the scheduling change. Webb's PR team sent out an email blast on Friday evening informing recipients of an "updated show time" to 3 p.m., writing: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are 'swishing' the time of the show to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11. Sorry for making 'waves.'" Get it?

This isn't the first time West has disrupted a designer's Fashion Week plans by announcing his own show at the last minute. Last season, emerging designer Anne Bowen planned to debut her new streetwear line at what turned out to be the exact same time as West's show, and she was not afraid to speak out about the strain West's last-minute announcement put on her business, telling WWD , "We have been prepping for a year for this at considerable financial, labor and commitment-cost to our company. Our show date has been scheduled for months and has been on the Fashion Calendar for weeks... Kanye knows he is a media sensation and it is just not ethical to do this." She was forced to show on a different date, "which [was] a logistical nightmare."

Details of West's show still remain scarce, but on Monday, West tweeted a link to a sale site where fans can purchase tickets to see the event streamed live in theaters from Madison Square Garden."

So what did we learn from all this? Kanye's dropping his new album and clothing line soon. Get on board or GTFO.

yeezy boost 350 moonrock.

the newest colorway in the yeezy line of adidas boost trainers has been announced: moonrock

So, I guess, add them to your collection of extremely overpriced footwear that will get dirty and end up in the bottom of a closet somewhere as soon as they go out of style... 'cause that seems to be a thing.

chainsmokers - kanye ft. siren.

you may know the chainsmokers from their track "#selfie" and hate them because of it. i don't blame you and i'm right there with you. it's stupid, so stupid.

so naturally i'm going to be a little hesitant about anything else they release, but when i saw they dropped a track titled "kanye" i had to bite.

it could be better considering the title, but it's catchy and not terrible like "#selfie".

it's worth a listen and i've put it in the post. i'm curious as to if 'ye will acknowledge it or maybe even remix it.

kanye x gq.

if you haven't seen the kanye pics in gq yet you must have been under a rock or forgot to pay your wifi/phone bill. these photos are literally plastered everywhere right now. i wasn't even going to post them because there's almost no need, but ye's style and clothing in this shoot is too good not to post.

the way he pairs each piece and brings these outfits to life is next level. i mean, yeah, the high end clothing definitely plays a part, but just because you can afford expensive clothes doesn't mean you know how to dress.

check out kanye's style and what he brings to the table for gq.
