kanye being kanye.

From Fashionista.com:

"For a typical fashion designer, New York Fashion Week prep begins months in advance, and one of the first priorities is securing a spot on the official Fashion Calendar. Now a digital platform operated by the CFDA, which works to prevent scheduling conflicts between two shows that might draw the same editors and buyers, the Fashion Calendar lists events up to six months ahead of time. Enter Kanye West, who decided to stage an over-the-top spectacle for his latest Yeezy collection and the debut of his album "Waves" (and not tell anyone about it until a week or two prior) at 4 p.m. on the first day of New York Fashion Week. This was not great news for two labels slotted to show at the same time.

Former J.Crew designer and current Banana Republic creative advisor Marissa Webb, whose show for her eponymous line was also scheduled for 4 p.m. on the 11th; and Adam Selman, a favorite of Rihanna'swhose show was scheduled for 5 p.m., both rescheduled their shows at the end of last week, after news broke of the Yeezy season 3 event.

While the element of surprise might add to the buzz and excitement surrounding West's show, it puts other designers in a tough spot. Even an established, respected brand can't expect to compete. Selman, whose shows draw a similar crowd to West's, confirmed his switch to the 6:30 p.m. slot last Thursday morning, though a rep would not confirm the reason for the scheduling change. Webb's PR team sent out an email blast on Friday evening informing recipients of an "updated show time" to 3 p.m., writing: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are 'swishing' the time of the show to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11. Sorry for making 'waves.'" Get it?

This isn't the first time West has disrupted a designer's Fashion Week plans by announcing his own show at the last minute. Last season, emerging designer Anne Bowen planned to debut her new streetwear line at what turned out to be the exact same time as West's show, and she was not afraid to speak out about the strain West's last-minute announcement put on her business, telling WWD , "We have been prepping for a year for this at considerable financial, labor and commitment-cost to our company. Our show date has been scheduled for months and has been on the Fashion Calendar for weeks... Kanye knows he is a media sensation and it is just not ethical to do this." She was forced to show on a different date, "which [was] a logistical nightmare."

Details of West's show still remain scarce, but on Monday, West tweeted a link to a sale site where fans can purchase tickets to see the event streamed live in theaters from Madison Square Garden."

So what did we learn from all this? Kanye's dropping his new album and clothing line soon. Get on board or GTFO.

PS x FOG launch.

The FOG collection has finally started launching. Not all pieces are currently available for purchase, but the ones that are have been selling out quickly. I'd recommend taking a look at the lookbook images below and picking them up from the PacSun online store since there won't be much left in the stores.

FOG x pacsun.

for those of us who like fear of god streetwear, but don't want to drop $150 on a t-shirt or $800 on jeans, the recently announced collaboration with pacsun might be the answer to our prayers.

Yes, I realize your hesitation in believing that anything good can come out of a pacsun store because generally, they tend to sell garbage. More specifically--wearable cotton-based garbage. And since they haven't released the lookbook for this collaboration line, there's still a really good chance they could screw it up. Until that happens, however, let's try to be a little optimistic. a sneak preview from Jerry Lorenzo himself:

the real question is, will this move ruin fog for those of us who've actually heard about it before this collaboration? pacsun certainly seems to attract a certain kind of customer--usually the kinds of dudes that only talk about raging super hard at fraternity parties, and asking you if you even lift, bro, and the final score of that sportball match that went into quadruple overtime.

my favorite comment from the reddit thread on the topic thus far: "...now that kid that made fun of my elongated tee is wearing it and he just stole that girl that friend zoned me in the 6th grade."

but hey, here's to hoping this isn't a huge mistake. I think this move comes from good intentions on lorenzo's part, so I'm really hoping it works out for the best. From Lorenzo:

"…oh and to the high school kid who left that comment 42 weeks ago… sorry for taking so long to get back to you bro. just been busy man… you know this clothing game isn’t as easy as it may seem… the costs, resources, materials… labor, etc… it adds up. making and constructing luxury level items really isn’t inexpensive… so i apologize that the price tag has been too steep for you… anyhow, i hope your misconception or lack of understanding never clouded your thoughts or perspective on my intention… i’m still learning, building a better team and i figured some things out man… found a way to give you what you asked for, and still have some cash left to take that girl out you were talking about… hope you guys are still goin’ strong… anyhow, this is for you my man. i hope you like it… peace."

reebok x kendrick lamar.

let's be real, reebok kinda feels like nike and adidas' annoying little brother. he never really amounted to anything, but also somehow kinda hung around forever. Then little reebok jumped on the crossfit train before anyone else did and started growing into his awkward little body, and making a name for himself.

I'm not trying to say that reebok is on the same level as his more successful brothers Nike and Adidas, but he's friends with kendrick lamar, and they did come out with an athleisure line together so that's kinda cool.

yohji monday.

the legend, yohji yamamoto.

you may know his name as the brains behind the Adidas y-3 campaign or the designer of the 2014 Real Madrid third kits, but yohji has been 'the man' since his debut in 1977, offering an unmistakingly unique perspective on fashion, design, and life.

Gap x GQ.

Gap Inc. is the largest american clothing retailer and third largest in the world. The company is comprised of several brands, including Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Athleta, Intermix, and Piperlime. While the Gap brand has always focused on classic, american style, they've recenly collaborated with gq and the winners of gq's best new menswear designers in america. this is the third year this collaboration has taken place, and this year it's yielded, by far, the best results.

here's a look at my favorite pieces from the 4 collections from the 4 designers:

M.NII

john elliott + co

Brooklyn Tailors

En noir

visit Gap's website for item details and purchase, or stop by select stores to see them in person and try them on. Since these collections are still in the process of being released, not all of the pieces are available for purchase yet. But be patient my young padawans, your time will come.

ABC's of Men's Fashion #7.

Line.

Line is as difficult to describe as it is to achieve. It is more than silhouette or shape: it is both in motion. It implies something clean-cut, and all decoration should be part of the line and not something imposed on it. Fortunately decoration is required very little in men's clothes: but this also makes the line more important, as there is little else to create interest. Line is the backbone of fashion: cloth of the flesh.
