normcore - "A fashion movement, c. 2014, in which scruffy young urbanites swear off the tired street-style clichés of the last decade — skinny jeans, wallet chains, flannel shirts — in favor of a less-ironic (but still pretty ironic) embrace of bland, suburban anti-fashion attire. (See Jeans, mom. Sneakers, white.)"

"Normcore is safe. Normcore is same-y. The normcore look is a knowing piss-take of the heterosexual male’s desperate desire to be sartorially unremarkable. Normcore is not brave or butch or swagger-y. Normcore is about dressing like a mild-mannered mental patient or a bewildered Icelandic exchange student circa 1984."

This is the worst. Don't fall for it. This isn't fashion, it's just lazy.

Just don't.

herschel - fall 2013.

herschel has been a busy busy company. It seems as though the planets have aligned in preparation for a couple big releases this fall including colabs with jeff staple, new balance, and hypebeast. They're also realeasing travel, cotton/canvas, rubber bag, wallet, pouch, and laptop sleeve collections and some new styles. Herschel has gone through some huge growth and success recently, and it's undoubtedly due to their hardwork and innovation.

The Jeff Staple collaboration is based heavily on travel. Traveling can be stressful and hectic but with signature staple stylings, this collection will help you stay organized while looking fresh as fuhhhh. "This is a work trip and it sucks, this is a vacation and it's going to be dope... like, why can't everything just be dope?"

Hypebeast's collaboration might not be quite as practical as the Jeff Staple's, but what it lacks in practicality, it makes up for in uniqueness. You won't find another bag like this one. This collaboration launches today (October 2) in a limited run of only 100 pieces to start. If you're into it, get on that asap!

The New Balance collaboration revolves more around exploring the outdoors. There's nothing worse than being unprepared to tackle the wilderness, amiright? Okay, maybe we don't all spend absurd amounts of time in the wild, living off the land and bonding with woodland creatures. But if, for some reason, you did, you'd be set. On the other hand, style is all about pulling from different kinds of inspiration, and this is one of my favorites--vintage utility mixed with comfort and rugged durability.

Take a look at some of the other fall releases and find something you like. Pieces like these can really pull a style together and help you stand out just enough.

You can check out all the news on fall releases by dropping by the Herschel Blog. If you want to scoop up some fresh new gear, take a trip to the Herschel Online store.

pf flyers.

i recently picked up a pair of classic pf flyers from a thrift shop for $16. needless to say, at that price, i couldn't pass them up. I love these classic sneakers. now, any true american will undoubtedly remember pf flyers from the 1993 film The Sandlot. Please please please don't allow that childhood memory be the only thing that defines them in your mind; they've come a long way since then.

since its creation by BF Goodrich over 75 years ago, pf flyers have been premium quality sneakers rooted in classic American style: it's the perfect combination. The name comes form the patented Posture Foundation insole that, in 1933, brought comfort to a whole new level and completely changed the way we look at sneakers. The company was purchased by New Balance in 2001, and after modernizing the Posture Foundation and adding new creative designs, has been gaining momentum ever since.

Don't just take my word for it though. if that wasn't enough, check out this video and listen to what the owner of pf flyers along with the guys from brooklyn circus and street etiquette had to say about the brand on the pop shop tour.

back to school trainers.

running around campus in uncomfortable shoes sucks. i've done it, you've done it, e've all done it, and it doesn't need to happen anymore. it takes a toll on your fee,t and by the end of the day those dogs are pretty worn out. let's face it, we won't always get front row parking, and if you're one of the lucky few who do, i hate you... seriously. i'm not one to battle parking lot traffic for 45 minutes just to find a decent parking spot - i just can't do it. that means i'm going to be doing some serious walking. so how can we give ourselves a leg up? with trainers, duh.

trainers are any scholar's best friends - they will take you all over campus with ease and comfort. they’re also great for early morning classes when you stumble out the door half conscious from the night before; just toss ‘em on and go. thankfully we don't have to compromise style when it comes to trainers these days. there are plenty of fresh choices out there and i've picked out a few of mine for you. every sneaker head knows i'm barely scratching the surface here and that's okay, i'm just trying to get your feet wet (perfectly used if i do say so myself). so scroll on down and check out a few of my picks.
