npr tiny desktop concert playlist.

There's a reason that going to live performances is so much better than listening to a studio-recorded album. There's something about seeing raw emotion and intensity during an in-person show that you lose when you simply listen to an mp3 or cd or record or whatever. That's one of the reasons I love the npr tiny desktop concert series. check out a few of my current favorites. Disclaimer: most of these are acoustic versions of the originals.

do something different.

Generally when we think of T-Pain (which is not often) we think of the goofy top hat, the fancy grill, and incredibly ridiculous lyrics presented by way of auto-tune to club beats.

Now there's nothing wrong with that, if that's what you're into. I'm just saying that we can all agree that's the brand he's created for himself.

That being said, he didn't allow that brand to dictate his every move. Turns out the dude has some solid pipes (the vocal kind). Check out this video of T-Pain singing sans autotune for the NPR tiny desktop concert series.

dare to be different.

moon hooch.

alcoholic galactic beverage or amazing three piece band? In this case, I'm referring to the second option, and you'll be happy that's the case. Not to say that getting white-girl wasted in space isn't something you might be into, but I'm more of a a music junkie than an interstellar adventurer.

That being said, trust me when I say that moon hooch is one of the most unique musical experiences you'll ever be a part of and actually enjoy. The band is made up of two saxaphonists and a drummer, with the occasional guest vocalist, making what I would call a mix of jazz and dance music that occasionally feels like EDM. They're awesome. That's really all you need to know. Now listen:

tiny desk concerts.

I've always felt that you can get a good idea for how talented a band really is by seeing them perform live. Furthermore, when a band plays without amps and effects and computer loops and autotune and all that jazz, you get a really good feel for raw talent and emotion. Theres nothing better than that.

That being said, here are some excellent "tiny desk concert" videos from some of my favorites.

watson for winter.

It's been insanely cold at night here in Utah this week. That being the case, one is inclined to remain indoors where piercing winds are unable to attack the face, fingers, and toes to the point of frostbite. Being warm inside while it's snowing outside always makes me want to relax with good friends and listen to good music, and for me that means Patrick Watson. Take a listen:
