northwest til death.

Our friends at paper diamonds sent over some 'northwest til death' gear, and it's dope.

Quality materials and rad designs - I'm not really sure what else you even need. Oh wait, did you say you also needed dad-hats, patches, and mugs? Okay yeah, they've got that too.

Stop by the site and grab some stuff.

outdoor style garb.

Prepping for my Yosemite trip has me obsessed with outdoor style right now--even mixed into everyday attire. Check out this Style Garb layout from Uncrate that emphasizes my point.

RRL Barringer Leather Jacket ($1,900).
Simon Miller Sweatshirt ($185).
Journal Standard Work Shirt ($126).
Raleigh Denim Alexander Jeans ($285).
Danner Stumptown Mountain Light Boot ($360).
Sneerwell Casket Flask ($65).
Biltwell Gasolina Reserve Gas Tank ($20).
Salt Optics Leif Sunglasses ($475).
Iron & Air 15/16 Bundle Pack ($15).
1970'S Enicar Sherpa Guide 600 Watch ($1,150).
Cordero Motorcycle Gloves ($45).

Now, for my purposes, I'd be swapping the flask for a pocket knife or multitool, and the leather jacket for something waterproof or a down jacket, but you get the idea.

Style is all about combining the things you love, however different they may be.

Yosemite prep # 1 - back-to-berkeley.

I'm gearing up for a week long backpacking trip into yosemite valley this spring, so naturally, I've been looking around for the right gear. I love gear. It's my absolute favorite thing to shop for. It feels so dang manly.

gear.

The trouble comes when you're trying to get the right gear without looking like some chump from the discovery channel doing a documentary on fly fishing. For some reason, most outdoor companies insist on making outdoor-ready, adventure-seeking individuals look like complete dorks.

Enter the back-to-berkeley hiking boot from The North Face:

  • HydroSeal® waterproof membrane
  • Waterproof, BLC-compliant, full-grain leather upper
  • OrthoLite® ReBound footbed
  • Compression-molded EVA midsole
  • Compression-molded TPU heel clip
  • Durable TNF Winter Grip® rubber outsole with IcePick® temperature-sensitive lugs

all that plus they look fresh. iconic vintage stype meets modern technology. gear problem #1 solved. stay posted for my solutions to the rest of the dorky gear I'll be picking up.

the north face - fuseform.

the north face began selling specialized gear to backpackers and climbers in 1968. They've come a long long way and have branched out from making backpacks (where their reputation began) to manufacturing all kinds of gear for the outdoors.

Their latest release, and what is probably the most unique design in years, is the fuseform rainjacket.

This thing is no joke. It's crazy light--weighing only 11.46 ounces--and still holds up to tough conditions. the name FuseForm comes from the the process innovated by the north face of fusing strong nylon yarns at the shoulders and breathable polyester yarns through the torso for targeted abrasion resistance.

Rain is no longer an excuse to stay indoors. Stop by the north face's website to learn more about the shells and scoop one up. treat yo' self

FEATURES

  • Lightweight, technical rain shell engineered with FuseForm construction to provide integrated abrasion resistance with fewer seams and less weight
  • Waterproof, breathable, seam-sealed, ultralight, 2.5-layer shell
  • Engineered yoke and sleeves for abrasion resistance and fewer seams
  • Attached, fully adjustable hood with hidden cord locks

nike sneakerboots.

I know that we're not quite ready to plan for spring yet, but lately it's all i can think about. I'm not sure why but i've got the itch to go hiking and camping so badly, and i lack the equipment to rough it in the winter. So instead, of throwing together a last ditch effort to get some sub-zero adventures going, I'm mentally preparing for the spring.

step 1 - footwear - nike sneakerboots.

nike is, has always been, and will always be my favorite manufacturer of athletic apparel; especially shoes. So it only made sense to begin (and most likely end) my search here. I started out checking eBay for vintage nike hikers, but found the selection and styles to be lacking. Although I did find some pretty cool retro hikers, none of them were in my size, and you can never be too sure how they'll actually hold up.

So, after realizing this was probably a dead end, I figured i'd embrace modern technology and look at some of the new sneakerboots nike has recently released.

nike - free run 2 sneakerboot

nike - rosche run sneakerboot

nike - air max 90 premium sneakerboot

nike - air max 90 sneakerboot

and my personal favorite...

nike - lunar ldv premium

nike - lunar ldv premium - ale brown/black/beach/volt

There's still plenty of time to look at other options, but i'd say this was a pretty good start. Also, if you'd like to see any of these sneakerboots in alternate colors, you can visit the Nike's official website. Let me know if you find some other good options for a sturdy light hiker.

This Ain’t Your Little Brother’s Tree House.

Did you have a tree house when you were a kid? If you did you can go walk into a wall. For the rest of us that never had a tree house our time has come. We’re a little more grown up and our tastes have changed. We have matured past the basic concept of a normal tree house. The only thing that will quench out thirst for a tree house at this age is the Mirror Cube. This thing is absolutely insane. This will blow the mind of anyone at any age. Could you imagine being a kid and coming home to this thing one day? You would fall over and die of happiness. Nothing could top it. Good luck next birthday/Christmas/gift-giving-reason parents!

As you might have noticed already, this doesn’t look like your typical tree house. It’s a square cube, that’s plated in glass mirrors to reflect its surroundings and blend in with the environment it’s in. If that’s not enough it’s actually a two way mirror as well. The outside may be pretty cool looking and could have possibly sold you already, but let’s take a step inside. On the inside of the Mirror Cube is covered in wood to give you that outdoorsy, old school tree house feel. Furnished with a queen sized bed, chairs, a table and storage this place is ready to go. Strategically placed windows are put in the right places so it gives you plenty of light and views. The best part is they do all the work for you. They build it, furnish it, mount it and make it ready for you to just walk up and start enjoying.

So if you’re in the market for a tree house I think I might have pointed you in the right direction. If you are not in the market for a tree house, you are now or you are heavily considering it. I can’t blame you because I am too. I will never let my tree house dream die. If I don’t personally get one in my life, I hope I can give one to my son. Dream on.

If you want to check out their site and see more here's the link: Mirror Cube
