dripcult x hillandsyd

the extremely talented and fashionable babes from came to visit me in San Francisco. Naturally, I had to show them san francisco from a new perspective. Did we eat delicious foods? of course we did. did we see some touristy stuff? of course we did. did i have to say "I wouldn't touch that if i were you" frequently? of course i did. but did we go on adventures to find hidden gems? you better believe it.

Timberland has come a long long way. From their beginnings in the workboot culture to that embarrassing time when rappers were their main promoters, showcasing the baggiest jeans hanging past the bottom of the butt cheek, wife beater tank top and smiley face joe boxer shorts hanging out. Those were some dark days.

But no longer must we associate timberland with such fashion catastrophes. Timberland has really stepped up their game, dividing their products into multiple different categories, each with several lines of footwear. My favorite right now. Hand made with extremely soft and comfortable leather, these things smell like Shakespeare, if Shakespeare were a dang cowboy. Check out the Wodehouse collection from Timberland Boot Company

I'll warn you ahead of time, before you embarrass yourself in an actual store. These guys are not coming cheap. Expect to drop around $300 for a pair. But also expect to own them forever.

On The Wall.

This is rad. I like how they arranged the pictures and used different ones of different sizes to cover the wall. I also like how they're all B&W. Instead of going formal and using framed pieces they've created a collage that is much more interesting in my opinion. I can only imagine how many more they have in the tubes leaning against the wall.

Kinfolk Magazine.

Guess what arrived yesterday? If you guessed volume two of Kinfolk you are right. What's Kinfolk you ask? Well I'm glad you asked because I'm about to tell you. Kinfolk is a guide to small gatherings. There are multiple unique contributors that offer everything from writing, photography, culinary skills, adventure and friends getting together; you can find just about anything to peak your interests in this magazine. From the moment you pick it up the magazine demands respect. By the look and feel of Kinfolk you can tell that a lot of time, effort and love went into making this. Upon opening the magazine you find yourself lost within its beautiful pictures. It takes a few flip-throughs to realize you haven't actually read a word, you're just looking at the pictures. When you finally step out of the photography trance that the visuals have created, you finally start reading the words and begin to the rabbit hole that is Kinfolk. They have done an amazing job of both capturing and keeping your attention. At last, you have read every word and scanned every photo multiple times. Now what? You do it all over again because you're left wanting more. If you do want more, go to Kinfolk's website.

Following Creativity.

It's always interesting to see how someone else does something you do. It doesn’t matter if it’s putting on socks or changing a light bulb; seeing the process by which they do things can be illuminating. Sometimes their method is exactly the same as yours and other times it's completely different.

I always enjoy seeing how other people take pictures. The way they direct people or how they position themselves for the shot is fascinating. What I really wish I could witness first hand is what they see. I’m not talking about the final picture, everyone gets to see that. What I want is to get inside their head and look through their eyes to fully understand their creative thought process. That’s where the real art is. I can see where someone chooses to position themselves or what types of models they shoot, but that doesn't explain what goes on in their brain while they work. Maybe one day we'll be able to, but for now we're left guessing.

Recently I asked my friend Jose if I could tag along to take some pictures of him and see how he works his magic. I was stoked! I got to see his style of shooting and his unique way of doing things. It truly is an eye-opening experience to see someone else work. If you're passionate about a craft or even if it's just a hobby, I seriously suggest that you get out there and see out how other people are doing it. I guarantee you'll learn something new and pick up a few tips and tricks.

Below are some of the pictures that Jose captured while I was following him around for the day. If you like them and want to see more you can click on the pictures or follow the link to his flickr.
