oddisee.

A Sudanese-American Rapper from Washington state who doesn't feel the need to rap about drugs, violence, and thug living. Oddisee has a knack for mixing jazzy house beats with east-coast style rap put to meaningful lyrics. Dude's worth taking a listen.

Belieb the hype?

it absolutely kills me to say this, but Bieber's new album is actually not completely and utterly terrible. That being said, it seems like everybody is going crazy about and raving about how "amazing" it is, and I'm here to tell you that it's just not true. Don't belieb the hype.

What I will say is this: there are, in fact, 2-3 bangers on this latest album and maybe one slow jam that's pretty good, and the rest is just borderline nonsensical garbage. Keep in mind that all of these songs are written by Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, Sonny Moore, Jaosn Boyd, and an entire team of paid songwriters not named Justin Bieber.

The underlying theme of the album seems to be apologizing for being a dumb adolescent, complaining about a teenage relationship between two pre-pubescent idiots, and asking people to understand that the life of a celebrity is real hard and that we should be more understanding of celebrity screw ups, blah blah blah..... welcome to adulthood, Mr. Bieber.

But like I said, there are some bangers. So here are the only songs on the album worth listening to:

Where are you now?

Sorry

What do you mean?

mark my words

summary: a great songs surround by some garbage aimed at making a statement with some cheesy "purpose"

i am not a hipster.

no, this post is not about me. i recently watched, on netflix, a film called 'i am not a hipster', featuring music by dominic bogart, under the fabricated "band" name Canines.

the movie is good. really good. it pokes fun at hipster culture which is always a good time, while walking through some legitimately deep and relatable life struggles. oh, and the music is also really good. there's a lot of 'really good' going on here.

Midweek Jams.

usually wednesday means the middle of the work week; however, this week is a short one since most of the corporate world rewards us for living in America with a three-day-July 4th weekend. That sounds like a pretty good reason to celebrate. What better way to celebrate than with a solid playlist?

niva - dirty water

grimes - realiti

kagu - human

milo greene - 1957

from gold - novo amor

tei shi - bassically

glass animals.

I've been in kind of a weird mood this morning. Maybe it's the fact that I injured my back so I'm walking like an 84 year-old man and I smell like an Icy Hot factory. Whatever the reason, a weird mood calls for a semi-weird music groove.

Meet Glass Animals: a newish indie rock band from Oxford (that's in Europe). They're videos are weird as fuhhhh. Also some of their beats and instrumentations are weird. And some of the build-ups feel weird. A lot of weirdness going on that makes for a weirdly awesome overall groove. You'll dig 'em.
