vuori.

Ho.Ly.Crap. You guys, I've found the holy grail of shorts. First of all, it's important to point out that I'm not much of a shorts-wearing person. Like, generally, unless I'm going to the gym or playing soccer, I'm not going the shorts route. I'm jeans all day. But alas, my mind has been opened to beauty that is Vuori.

Our friends over at Vuori sent us over a couple pairs and I've been wearing them nonstop ever since. These things are insanely comfy. They're crazy lightweight, they stretch in every direction, and they hold up like a champ.

Made from 4-way stretch fabric and an anti-odor finish built, these shorts are moisture wicking and quick drying. I've worn them to the gym, to the beach, to the park, our to run errands, and at all times around the house.

There are two main fits (not including the board-short specific fit): the Kore and the Banks. The Kore is a bit slimmer, but honestly, both designs are killer and are super versatile, and come in sooo many color/pattern options.

I love these things so much, I immediately bought two additional pairs. Yeah, they're THAT good. Do yourself a favor, and pick some up.

recycle. reduce. reuse.

Still wondering what to do with that pair of worn-out jeans that you never wear anymore, but were way too expensive to just throw out? Still wondering how you can add to your collection of summer shorts without having to spend lots of monies? Why not kill two birds with one stone? (no birds were harmed in the making of this post)

The easiest and most cost-effective thing to do is create your own shorts. Grab some scissors and go to town. You know the jeans already fit, and now you can make them the perfect length as well. frayed, non-frayed, cuffed, non-cuffed, the choice is yours. Don't have extra jeans lying around that you can cut up into shorts? Then just hit up your local thrift store and grab some pants there to cut into shorts -- at most you'll drop $6. And don't feel limited to only using denim. Explore the wide world of fabrics.

Problem solved. Fashion on a budget.

^ I do, however, recommend avoiding the Andre Agassi circa 1985 look.

the zipper vs button fly.

Have you ever tried to take off your pants thinking that they were a button fly instead of zipper, and started to tear into the garment? Well I have. I know what you're thinking: "Why are you ferociously taking off your pants? Calm down Hemo Rage!" I'm sorry. Actually, I'm not sorry. But I'm sorry that I'm not sorry. When I want my pants off, I want them off asap! There's not enough time in the day to be wasting precious seconds on clothing removal. In all honesty, it's usually at the end of the night and I'm so tired I just want my clothes off. So without thinking I start undressing for bed and that's when things break, get torn, or fall apart. There are two types of flys you'll find when searching for pants or shorts. The zipper, which we all know and love, and the button fly. Some of you may not be familiar with the button fly, or you just didn't know what it was called until now, but now you do. You're welcome. Personally, I prefer the button fly. To me, it's much easier than the zipper. Yeah it may take a few extra seconds to button up when you first put your pants on for the day, but at the end of the night the pay off is worth it. You just undo the first button and keep pulling down. They slide open with ease and before you know it the pants are off. I find myself struggling with zippers, which shouldn't be the case. They're suppose to unzip hassle free, but for me they don't. Anyway, button fly ftw. Take your zipper somewhere else.

summer fashion guide: shorts.

With summer time coming, hot weather is close behind. Hot weather means less clothing. Sometimes it gets too too hot wear jeans or pants, thus, the shorts were invented. We put together this summer fashion guide focusing on shorts to educate you on which ones you should invest in to beat the heat. In case you didn't know, there are plenty of options other than the cargo jean shorts that your mother picked out for you in sixth grade. So let's take a look at what's out there. Let me also tell you that this is simply a guide to summer shorts, it does not include swimtrunks or any type of swimwear for that matter. So don't be surprised when you don't see any on this post. Keep in mind we're just showing you what's out there, feel free to explore outside of these recommendations. These, and variations, can be found in most retail stores, but don't limit yourself or your garment hunting. Without further adieu, let us begin...

Chino Shorts

Every man needs a good pair of chino shorts in his arsenal. It's the perfect mixture of casual and dressy. They come in all sorts of different colors, and look great matched with a plain white tee or a button up and some casual summer shoes like Sperry's Top Siders. You can't go wrong. What I have featured above are H&M's version of the classic chino shorts for only $19.95. I'll post a link below, but since they do not offer online shopping in the states yet (total fail) you'll have to go in to the store to pick some up.

Cutoff Jeans

Since it's hot out and you want to wear shorts, why not cut your old jeans into some? What a great way to recycle! Good for the environment and good for your style. What I have featured above are some Levi's 511 skinny cutoff jeans. Yes, you can buy some new and pre-cut, but why drop $40 when you probably have plenty of old jeans sitting around begging to be worn again as shorts. If not, just drop by the local thrift store and grab some there for $6 to cut into shorts. Save yourself the money, then take that money you've saved and go spend it on a tastey treat. Or give it to me, either way.

Camo Shorts

I am a fan of camo shorts; always have been, always will be. These can be stylish and effective if worn correctly. Toss on a plain black or white tee, these shorts and some vans, and you're set. You can roll down to any army surplus store and snag a pair of these pretty cheap. Or just grab a pair of camo pants and cut them for a better fit. If you want an even more fitted cut, I'm hitting you with a link to some by All-Son carried by Urban.

Seersucker Shorts

Seersucker screams summer! Whether you're spending it on your yacht or at the Hamptons beach house, you know you're lookin' good. Get yourself some of these and head down to the beach/harbor/lake/coast/marine-like-area and feel right at home. Pair these with your topsiders a solid, light-blue, short-sleeved button up and you, my friend, are golden. If you're feeling extra fresh, try a seersucker suit. Awesome much?

Linen Shorts

If you want to feel the summer breeze all up in your shorts and, if I may, let your 'boys' breathe a little this summer, this is the way to go. These linen shorts are perfect for any hot day. They're thin, lightweight, and comfy. The fabric lets your body breathe and move freely. The pair I have featured above are from H&M.

Check out the H&M Linen Shorts Here.

Plaid Shorts

First and foremost, please be careful with plaids shorts. You have a very good chance of looking like a tool and we don't want that, unless, of course, you are a tool, in which case plaid is your go-to. I usually stay away from plaid shorts, but sometimes you gotta take a risk. The pair pictured above are a good example of what a good pair of plaid shorts can look like. They aren't too crazy or busy, but classy and clean. Less fat golfer, more summer casual. I generally have two rules when it comes to plaid: 1.) Keep it simple and clean, and 2.) Go outrageous and obnoxious (if the situation calls for it). I understand that the second rule is a complete contradiction of the first, but you'll know what I mean when the time comes. These I've shown are made by Gant Rugger. Link below.

Print/Pattern Shorts

There are plenty of print and pattern shorts out there to choose from so go crazy. Generally you don't want to get a pair of mass-produced print or pattern shorts because you'll see a bunch of other doods walking around in the same pair as you, that just sucks (fashon clones are not cool). So try to get as many unique options as you can. This could mean spending a little extra, but that's the price of standing out. The pair I have featured above are geometric print (super popular this season) made by Ralph Lauren and I want them, now please.
