mismatch matching.

That's what I thought you'd say. Classic you--so typical.

I guess I shouldn't blame you for not knowing what I'm talking about when I say "mismatch matching" since it's not something we've talked about before, nor, to my knowledge, is it a thing that anyone else has talked about before. Let's just say this is the first time the term has been coined. Congratulations for being part of this important event in history.

Now, it's very important that you don't mistake this new take on sock game for just wearing mismatched socks, which is a thing some people are doing that is dumb and bad, and absolutely fugly, and don't do that, and so on. Wearing completely mismatched socks looks lazy, or like you're trying way too hard to look like you don't care. You obviously care, and we can tell that you care, and we now hate you for it.

So then what is mismatch matching, you ask?

Mismatch matching is finding a way to coordinate socks that were not sold together as a pair. Using matching color schemes between socks with different patterns to create a "match" without actually matching pairs of socks by their mates.

Black, purple, and white. All of these colors are found in both socks, plus some greyscales in the striped sock that don't appear in the doted patterned sock. Did these socks come in the same package when I bought them? No. Are they identical? No. But do they coordinate and match? yes.

Benefits to mismatch matching:

  • exponential growth in the combinations of socks you can now wear
  • subtlety to your style
  • uniqueness -- you'll be the only one of your friends doing this
  • you can finally unlock your inner sock creativity
  • add some fun to your sock game with 1 reserved-pattern sock and 1 goofy sock
  • I'm doing it, so you can be like me
  • girls will think you're more attractive

Do you really need any more reasons? Check out my sock combinations from the last two weeks:

*Side note: I don't cuff my jeans up to the middle of my shins: pants were pulled up for the purposes of photo taking.

so dig through your sock drawer and get creative. just not too creative.

J-Crew aint got nothin' on me.

I think it's safe to say that when it comes to sock game, I practice what I preach. Let's just say that when I go out, I can be confident that if my jeans lift up when I sit down and somehow happens to catch a glimpse of my ankle region, they'll like what they see. Step your game up.

Brain Freezing, Nice Socks.

What you see here is the picture by picture capture of the typical brain freeze. An unsuspecting Taylor is enjoying his smoothie unknown to the danger ahead. Then it strikes! The searing pain of millions of icicles shooting through his head as he winces in agony. "When will it end??" He thinks to himself. It eventually subsides and the pain is a mere memory. It is then time for him to find his center and realign his chi. Focused and recovering, Taylor has made it through to sip again.

Another victim is struck down in pain. It is now a battle of the mind. Taylor is there to guide Andrew through it, but can only do so much. He knows his pain and what is ahead of Andrew on this awful journey.

Reflecting back on what has just happened, Andrew recovers his strength. But he remembers...

He's got on some nice socks. Step up your sock game.
