H&M Winter wool.

I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of H&M. I mean, yes they're supply chain is extremely fast and so they're able to pump out the newest runway styles before other companies (similar to ZARA in this sense), but, and it's a big ol' but: the quality and fit aren't always the greatest.

That being said, let me also say this: I LOVE H&M ACCESSORIES. No joke, they're incredible. Again, they won't be the highest quality you've ever come across, but i find the quality of accessories to be exponentially higher than any other product they make. Not only that, but I think they're priced extremely well.

The selection is great and always changing. Knit beanies, wool scarves, blended fabrics, fresh patterns; you really can't go wrong. The best thing to do in the colder months is layer, and doing so with nice accessories is a good place to start. Check out a few of my favs from the online store.

Swoop here to pick up some of these new fall/winter accesories.

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Simplicity is a great virtue but it requires hard work to achieve it and education to appreciate it. And to make matters worse: complexity sells better. In character, in manner, in style, in all the things, the supreme excellence is simplicity."

abc's of Men's Fashion 43.

It used to be said that no gentleman should wear brown in London. The increasing popularity of the color over the past years has been, presumably, proportionate to the increase in the disappearance of the gentleman.

It is a color in which there is a great difference between the good and the bad. Bad browns have a a red cast; good browns have a green. Happily good browns, although dark, look cool, soothing and expensive as distinct from bad browns which look hot and cheap.

back to school on a budget.

With the new school season about to start, you've definitely thought about improving your wardrobe a bit to kick the semester off the right way. Now if you're anything like me, you've thought about doing so while spending as little money as possible. The good news is this task can be accomplished with just a little bit of searching. For example, check out this basic back-to-school outfit I was able to put together for $100.

Levi's 511 Slim Fit jeans - rigid dragon -   $58.00   $48.00 click here.

Gap Inc. horizontal stripe modern oxford -   $39.95   $23.99   click here.

UO skull icon sock -   $8.00   $5.99   click here.

UO CVO sneaker -   $29.00   click here.

At this point, there really aren't any excuses to look anything less than dapper on your first day of the semester. Do you homework, find new threads, and have a great semester.

Travel attire

I've recently done a fair amount of traveling, and in doing so felt as if I were an 80 year old man complaining about today's generation. Back in the day (not my day, but a day much farther back in time) people would dress up for a flight--it was an event.

I'm not saying that you should wear a suit and tie every time you travel by plane, but I am saying that just because you're flying somewhere, it is not an excuse to wear your jammies in public. Come on man, have some pride in your appearance.

Nobody should ever have to see you like that. Who said you can't be comfy AND presentable? Oh that's right, no one, no one said that ever. If you're going to be doing some traveling, ou don't have to prepare for a night on the town, or a formal event. Just wear something that looks good, and you can handle sitting in for a few hours. This way, you don't have to stop at home or a hotel to change clothes before you start your vacation.

This is what I wore on my most recent trip to San Francisco.

  • topman sparrow print woven shirt
  • uo huarache shoes
  • ray ban polarized sunglasses
  • wooden beaded bracelet from a street vendor
  • levi's 511 jeans
  • fossil leather magnetic bill fold
  • nike leather duffel bag
  • all-son backpack

Keep it comfrotable, keep it simple, and most of all, keep it classy.

Cheat Sheet for ties and pocket squares.

I came across this guide to tie and pocket square styles based on specific events/occasions, put out by J.Crew. I think they did a pretty good job with it, adding images to help visualize the presentation rather than simply describing it. Although there will always be events that don't fall under one of these basic categories, this is still a great reference to help point you in the right direction for using ties and pocket squares in varying degrees of formality.

blue suit.

A blue suit has, for too long, conjured up a picture of a 'Sunday-go-to-meeting' suit in blue erge, either too dark (that is to say, too much like the true navy blue which is almost black) or in what one calls a bad navy, which is one that is too purple. In point of fact a good navy is a very becoming color to almost everyone, male or female. It is not actually navy blue at all, but what we would call a French navy, a light navy with green cast and never a red. It is very clean looking with a white shirt, and very elegant looking and harmonious with a blue shirt. It is an ideal color by articifial light and will go a deep black, wheras black itself may go brown or greeny. A blue suit is, therefore, an excellent late-day garment when a dinner jacket is not required.

short man.

Dapper is the adjective mostly applied to a short man, and that is what he should strive to be. He should wear net, smooth, well-porportioned clothes. He should never allow the little space given to him to be cut up by patterns in design or contrasts in colour.
