topman distressed denim.

Distressed/deconstructed/ripped denim is trending pretty hard right now. And while yes, you can absolutely attempt to rip your own jeans to add that extra level of legitness and authenticity to your look, is sitting in your living room with scissors and sandpaper, and going to to town on some denim really any better than just buying a pair of jeans that someone has already deconstructed for you? I mean unless you're ripping holes in your jeans from natural causes (i.e. street rugby, mountain gymnastics, or urban midget knife fighting), why not just buy a pair that has been deconstructed correctly--to prevent additional fraying and decreasing of fabric integrity?

For around $80, you can pick up a pair from Topman in multiple colors, fits, and fabric compositions.

Stop by the "ripped" section of Topman's website, or check out Nordstrom's selection of Topman denim to try on the different fits before making your selection.

fall is for flannel.

fall is among us and that means jacket season is right around the corner. we’re still in that awkward end of summer/beginning of fall stage where it’s still hot as hell during the day and drops off drastically when the sun sets. keep those down feather jackets in the closet for now though, we don’t need those yet. light layers and light outerwear are kings right now and flannel shirts are sitting on top of the throne.

it's time to tap into your flannel reserves or pick some new ones up. if you've got a beard great, but if you don’t it’s time to grow it out and get your paul bunyan on. be careful though, you don’t want to look like an actual lumber jack or maybe you do. i don’t know, or really care, and that whole outdoor, camping, poler lifestyle thing is pretty trendy right now so who knows? maybe that’s the exact look you’re going for. we support you no matter what over here at dripcult. but what i do know is that a well fitted flannel can help you avoid these immediate lumber jack associations. it’ll show people that you took the time to find clothing that fits because you care about how you look and not about taking an axe to trees.

i took to the interwebs to see this fall’s flannel offerings form various companies and was quite pleased with my findings. check out some of my picks below.

have any favorites or know of other places the cult should check out? drop us a line and let us know so we can share it.

Travel attire

I've recently done a fair amount of traveling, and in doing so felt as if I were an 80 year old man complaining about today's generation. Back in the day (not my day, but a day much farther back in time) people would dress up for a flight--it was an event.

I'm not saying that you should wear a suit and tie every time you travel by plane, but I am saying that just because you're flying somewhere, it is not an excuse to wear your jammies in public. Come on man, have some pride in your appearance.

Nobody should ever have to see you like that. Who said you can't be comfy AND presentable? Oh that's right, no one, no one said that ever. If you're going to be doing some traveling, ou don't have to prepare for a night on the town, or a formal event. Just wear something that looks good, and you can handle sitting in for a few hours. This way, you don't have to stop at home or a hotel to change clothes before you start your vacation.

This is what I wore on my most recent trip to San Francisco.

  • topman sparrow print woven shirt
  • uo huarache shoes
  • ray ban polarized sunglasses
  • wooden beaded bracelet from a street vendor
  • levi's 511 jeans
  • fossil leather magnetic bill fold
  • nike leather duffel bag
  • all-son backpack

Keep it comfrotable, keep it simple, and most of all, keep it classy.

Nordstrom Half-yearly men's sale.

This is one of those posts where the title kinda says it all. But allow me to continue anyway, just in case you're reading this post thinking "I don't really like going to Nordstrom, it's too crowded." Or maybe "It's too pricey." Or maybe "They don't carry brands that I actually wear." Allow me to offer a solution to these common, and often invalid, complaints.

We live in the year 2013. That's 29 years since the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) was standardized and subsequently adopted by consumers, and 18 years since it was commercialized and spread across the US. I think it's safe to assume that after 18 years of technological advances in telecommunications and ecommerce, we've figured out a way to avoid crowds. That's right folks, you can shop online without having to interact with a single human being! Huzzah!!

Now, I'm also aware that Nordstrom tends to have higher price points than other stores. Let me remind you that the entire purpose of this post is to alert you of a giant SALE. In other words, prices are lower right now than normal, so your complaint is no longer acceptable.

Lastly, I'll be the first to admit that Nordstrom has not always carried brands that I want to wear. That being said, they've definitely stepped up their game recently-- they've partnered with Topman, Nudie, and Obey just to name a few. That being said, I checked out the half-yearly men's sale online for 10 minutes and came across these gems.

topman Swallow print woven shirt $52.00 $26.00 click here.

topman short sleeve woven shirt $56.00 $27.98 click here.

topman 'bogart' skinny one button blazer $300.00 $149.98 click here.

nudie 'grim tim' skinny straight leg jeans (organic dry navy) $179.00 $119.93 click here.

obey 'cruiser stripe' t-shirt $42.00 $28.14 click here.

levi's 'trucker' denim jacket $84.00 $56.28 click here.

dockers 'alpha khaki' slim straight leg chinos $59.00 $39.53 click here.

If I can find these beauties within the first 10 minutes of browsing, it's safe to say there's plenty more where that came from. So get on the website and see what else they've got on sale, you don't wanna miss out.

topshop/topman at nordstrom.

I know that in writing posts about popular topics and loading them onto the interwebs, the whole world has the opportunity to see and learn form what I write. And based on how successful we've been in the short time we've been around, I understand that there are a lot of people reading what we write. But what I did not expect was for Nordstrom to read our posts and make a decision based on what we've been saying. Topshop is now at Nordstrom! We Called it.

All joking aside (I realize that Nordstrom is fully capable of doing their own research and making their own informed decisions), I'm so pumped to finally be able to find clothes from Topman without having to travel hundreds of miles to one of only three US locations. They aren't carrying ALL Topshop products, but they do have quite a collection available, so not only can you try things on before purchasing them, but you don't have to pay international shipping fees anymore.

Our prayers have been answered. So let's take advantage of this new addition to Nordstrom's aresenal of hip threads.

As a resource for men's fashion, I feel obligated to intoduce you to my absolute favorite clothing store: Topshop. Topshop is a UK-based company with stores in over 20 countries worldwide. Unfortunately, the United States has only three of those stores--Las Vegas, Ney York, and Chicago. Lucky for us they have a website.

The store is divided into two sections: Topshop (women), and Topman (men). The styles are ALWAYS new and ALWAYS super fresh. Here are a few of my current favorites:

grey tweed snapback

peach horzontal stripe shirt

blue blanket stripe denim shirt

white stripe pocket vest/tank

green contrast aztec shorts

cream anchor embroidery shorts

vera "cadiz" espadrille

I'll be honest, the website isn't the best and the prices are even worse, but the clothing is amazing. That just means that if you don't want to drop your life savings on one outift, you just need to find the deals. If nothing else, it's a great place to get ideas.
